The Hebrew and Old Testament background of Luke 13:22-30. We'll see how Jesus is using Isaiah 25, Psalm 6, and other OT passages to talk about the kingdom, patriarchs, Gentiles, and the gnashing of teeth.
Jesus throwing fire, enduring a deluge, and fracturing families? This is not the typical way we think of our Lord, but it's the language of Luke 12:49-53. In this video, I unpack the Hebrew images of fire, water, and judgment, as well as how fire and water are frequently joined in the OT.
In Luke 12:22-39, Jesus uses a common rabbinic device to interpret the Scriptures; draws from numerous passages in Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Daniel, and 1 Kings to encapsulate his teaching on the kingdom of God; and parallels the story of Solomon asking God for a lev shomea (“a listening heart”). All of this and more is elaborated in this video.
