  1. Jesus knew what was coming, so He spent four chapters in John’s gospel preparing them. Then, immediately before leading them to the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed.
  2. When Peter says to resist him, firm in your faith, he is not sending you out to do battle on your own. He is locating you. You are baptized into Christ.
  3. “Rolling the dice” or rather “casting lots” has an interesting place in the life of the Church from the Bible.
  4. Paul's message is simple. God has come to judge and save all people through Jesus’ resurrection.
  5. What ought the Christian to be prepared with, to faithfully, lovingly, and honestly defend the hope they have? The answer is her confidence in salvation which is located outside of herself, in the person and work of Christ.
  6. Our genuine love for Jesus and His commandments continually run up against a deeply ingrained disposition to self-love and autonomy. The result is, as believers in Jesus, our lives are a continual struggle.
  7. As good as the news of Jesus’ resurrection is, the reality of life in a troubled world challenges us.
  8. For Peter, growing up looks rather more like growing down.
  9. This brief glimpse into Stephen’s life shows that the Word of the Lord must continue to go out despite its worldly detractors.
