1. When we own up to our sin, our Father is not scandalized, and his response is not to reconsider his calling us.
  2. In Advent we wait, in Christmas we rejoice over the coming of Christ in the fulfillment of the promises, and in Epiphany we celebrate the surprise, the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles.
  3. While all Scripture is the self-revelation of God, not all Scripture should be read in the same way.
  4. The irony of our idolatry is that many of our idols could and would speak the gospel to us if we would listen.
  5. Death may speak, and its voice may sound authoritative and decisive. Nonetheless, it is a mere whimper from the grave.
