On this day in 1054, the churches of East and West experience the Great Schism. Luther and Karlstadt attempted to breach the schism between Rome and Wittenberg with the Leipzig Disputation in 1519. Our reading is from Alfred Lord Tennyson, "In Memoriam Canto 49."
