A multi-day workshop for pastors to hone the Craft of Preaching
A multi-day workshop for pastors to hone the Craft of Preaching
Event Date
July 11 - 13, 2024
Pastors,
The task of preaching is continually before you. By it you proclaim the promises of God in Christ to the church and the world. Though it is a weekly task, rarely do pastors get the chance to step back to consider the broader task of preaching and receive continuing preparation for the task.
With this in mind, we invite you to join other pastors for a three-day workshop on the task and craft of preaching. It will be led by Dr. David Schmitt of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO.
During this workshop, preachers will explore the value of the arts for preaching. In particular, we will consider how the arts can awaken faith for people who live in a disenchanted world. Preachers will learn specific techniques for working with narrative, poetry, and visual images at both the developmental and the structural level of the sermon. Sessions will include:Preaching in an Age of Disenchantment - Developing the Scriptural Imaginary, Narrative Preaching - The Art of Credal Creativity, Narrative Preaching, Preaching Biblical Poetry - The Drama of the Imagination, Preaching and Images - Six Ways of Seeing, and Preaching & Images - Fundamentals and an Example.
