Jesus has Overcome Evil

Reading Time: 2 mins

Jesus overcame sin, death, and Satan on the cross. His bloody suffering and death marked this sinful world's defeat.

The world in which we live is full of evil and satanic malevolence. There is rarely a day that some conflict, adversity, or hardship does not visit us. These are the times when it's understandable that we doubt God's almighty rule over the heavens and the earth. We are sinners, after all. That means we're selfish, self-centered, and wholly focused on how everyone and everything affects us. The problem with that posture is that we end up judging the world by our standards of good and evil.

Doesn't God know what's happening to me?
Has God forgotten about protecting me from evil?
Why has God abandoned me to be attacked by these wicked people?
Why won't God hold Satan accountable for what's being done to me?

The wicked, those involved in doing evil and Satan's agents, believe God has overlooked them. They don't think they'll be held accountable. They boast and brag about what they do because they don't care about or consider God. But, when we go to God, the Lord of heaven and earth, we discover our confidence. He will triumph over evil. He is King of king and Lord of lords forever and ever.

While the world celebrates its godlessness and prides itself in being evil, convinced there is no God or that he will not call them to account for their evil ways, we observe those who are bent on doing evil and pray for God to defeat them. Jesus overcame sin, death, and Satan on the cross. His bloody suffering and death marked this sinful world's defeat. Now, nothing will be able to separate us from God's care and protection. This is our confidence. Jesus is Lord and King forever and ever over evil.

Jesus overcame sin, death, and Satan on the cross. His bloody suffering and death marked this sinful world's defeat.

So we pray that God will continue to restrain those who brag about their selfish cravings and desires, their evil machinations, and satanic agency. We also pray that our Lord will cause them to fall into the trap they've set for us. We pray that their deceit and lies would ultimately lead to their destruction. More than that, we pray that when God acts for us that he would kill them - meaning, of course, that he would repent, convert, and raise them up into a new life of faith in Christ Jesus just as he has done for us.

The world in which we live is full of evil and satanic malevolence. There is rarely a day that some conflict, adversity, or hardship does not visit us. These are the times when it is understandable that we doubt God's almighty rule over the heavens and the earth. But, we have our Jesus to care for and protect us from all evil. Jesus is our salvation from sin, and evil, and Satan. On the cross, and by his resurrection from the dead, he has delivered us from evil. Jesus gives us a new life and the confidence that in the power of his resurrection, we have already overcome the world and obtained the victory.
